We've done all the right things. Our family and friends are thriving and caring. Now it's our turn. We love to travel, see foreign films, visit museums, and share lovely long conversations. We love great puffy pillows and pillow talk. Especially pillow talk.

We share values and interests. We're socially and politically concerned and, while we may be spiritual, we're not terribly religious.

My consulting practice focuses on ending workplace discrimination and harassment and I have an abiding thirst for understanding human behavior which I
doubt will ever be quenched.

Right now I'm reading two books, one by an American Buddhist woman whose wisdom is profound; the other is a memoir by a Somali woman who grows up a devout Muslim and later begins to struggle with the new concepts to which she is exposed.

An ideal first date for me would be spending time in a comfortable place, perhaps a cozy restaurant, where my date and I could spend time getting to know each other, sharing, listening, talking, responding and seeking ways in which we might connect. And if we find that we do connect, perhaps we could find a quiet place in which to continue our conversation.

I've always wanted to try living in a foreign country (or maybe even two) where I could learn enough of the language to become acquainted with the locals and understand their culture, become more than a tourist. And sometimes I think about places here in the US that I've fallen in love with (like Falmouth) where it would be fun to spend a few months, perhaps joining a local theatre group and attending social and political activities along with others who live there. Somehow it seems to me easier to develop friendships in a small town. I've never lived in one and it might be a wonderful experience. And, if not, I'm not very far from home.

My goal in life is to continue and, perhaps, enhance my already very satisfying life by having a loving partner to share it with. Although I appreciate how fortunate I am to have lovely friends, it's not quite the same as cuddling with someone for whom I am a significant other as he is for me. I want to hold hands on walks, share stories about how we grew up and how we became who we are and why we are so important to each other. I want to look forward to being together in the good times and the inevitable bad times as well and I want us to be "it" for each other.

Travel, especially to Italy and France, to savor art and architecture, the languages, the people, the food; spending time with my wonderful family and friends, great conversations and ordinary small-talk; sharing (and sometimes cooking) lovely meals; visiting charming places I haven't been before, especially driving down roads spontaneously; dancing to romantic music, delighting at a friend's unexpected humorous asides, reading and re-reading favorite literature.

I look for a kindred spirit ... someone who shares what I think of as generosity of spirit ... someone who is warm and kind whose humor stems from the recognition of life's absurdities. Intelligence is important to me as is an abiding addiction to learning. Yet I don't mean to sidestep chemistry. That does count. A lot ultimately. But chemistry, for me, is very much wrapped up in a sense of humor ... that sparkle that ignites more than traditional good looks. Wow! That's a lot . . . and yet. And yet. I continue to believe.
